See and do

The walking / hiking possibilities in West-Friesland are almost unlimited. On dykes, through the fields, the dunes and in the forest. Start right outside your door or use a departure point further away. The beautiful Noordhollandpad runs right along the B&B.

A city walk in one of the beautiful historic cities of West-Friesland is certainly worthwhile.

Let a guide show you the hidden treasures of for example Alkmaar. You will not be disappointed.

We have a lot of information available to you and are also happy to share our insider tips. You can find a preview here.

Whether you want to cycle the 143-kilometer-long West-Frisian Omringdijk, explore the beautiful wide dunes along the Northsea coast or cycle through small backroads to nice villages and roadside farmoutlets, much is possible. There’s an excellent cycling junction network so you can plan your own routes. There is also a cycling map in your room.

Make plans in advance? We promise that your stay will be too short.

Bring your own bike? It can be stored safely under our carport. Would you rather rent a bicycle or a trendy E-chopper? We have an agreement with Fred’s rental that (electric) bicycles can be delivered to the B&B on request, possibly before your arrival. Ideal.

The North Sea beaches of Callantsoog, Sint Maartenszee and Petten are about 20 minutes by car from our B&B. By bike, it takes about one hour via the West-Frisian Omringdijk and backroads.

In addition to a beautiful beach, Callantsoog has a pleasant village center. Sint Maartenszee is ideal for those seeking tranquility. Petten is surrounded by a forest, beautiful dunes and the Hondsbossche Zeewering.

There are many more quiet and / or cozy beaches on the North Sea coast, the Wadden Sea or the IJsselmeer.

The beaches are not crowded here. Many tourists visit but fortunately there is no mass tourism.

Enjoy a beautiful evening sunset with a drink and snippets of music from a beachcafé: the ultimate holiday feeling. Discover the possibilities here.

Many guests inform about the travel time to Amsterdam. The answer is one hour. Amsterdam is a beautiful city but always very crowded. We have mapped out a route that gives a good impression of the city and also avoids the large crowds.

At least as beautiful are the smaller West-Frisian cities such as Hoorn, Medemblik and Enkhuizen. Schagen should also be in this list. During the summer months a West-Frisian market is held every Thursday. Visit at least one of these! The cheese town of Alkmaar and the naval city of Den Helder are both half an hour away and are also definitely worth a visit.

Within walking distance is the historic village of Kolhorn, formerly a port on the Zuiderzee. Lovely for a stroll and a visit to Museum De Turfschuur, a small but interesting museum.

Recreation on water

West-Friesland has lots of ways to recreate on water. Sailing boats, sloops, canoes and a ferry service. Ports and entrances to the IJsselmeer and the Markermeer can be found in Enkhuizen, Medemblik and Hoorn. In addition, many villages have a network of narrow canals, ditches and lakes. Ideal for a day trip with a sloop or canoe, even if you are not experienced. West-Friesland has a sloops route with sailing nodes.

We can provide you with information about sailing options and are happy to help you with your rental wishes. Discover the possibilities here.

Our insider tip: in Kolhorn you can take a small boat trip with a skipper on an iron piece of sailing heritage, the anchovies jolly-boat KH44.
